10 Ways to Style a Serape Blanket in Your Home
30th Sep 2026
Few textiles pack as much personality per square foot as a Mexican serape. Bold woven stripes, hand-tied fringe, colors that manage to be both vibrant and warm — a serape can anchor an entire room. Here are ten ways we've seen customers (and our own families) put them to work.
- The classic couch throw. Fold an XL serape in thirds and drape it over the arm of a neutral sofa. The stripes do the decorating for you.
- Wall art, no frame needed. Hang a serape as a tapestry behind a bed or console table. It adds color, texture, and insulation — great for large walls that feel empty.
- Boho bed layer. Fold a serape across the foot of the bed like a runner. It protects the comforter and adds that finished-hotel look.
- Picnic and beach duty. An extra-large serape seats four comfortably and shakes clean afterward. The tight weave handles grass and sand better than most picnic blankets.
- The table makeover. A serape makes a striking tablecloth for taco night, or fold it as a table runner for everyday. Pair it with our serape placemats and coaster sets for a full tablescape.
- Porch and patio accents. Drape serapes over outdoor chairs in summer; bring them in when temperatures drop. The colors stay rich even in sunlight.
- The camping upgrade. Serapes are warm, quick-drying, and light enough to pack — a much comfier seat around the fire than a plastic chair.
- Nursery softness. A serape folded over a rocking chair adds warmth for late-night feeds and looks beautiful in the background of every baby photo.
- Saddle and ranch use. It's right there in the name — sarapes were originally working textiles. Under a saddle, over a truck bench seat, or on a fence rail, they earn their keep.
- The gift that never misses. A serape is personal, useful, and beautiful — the trifecta. Our handwoven XL serapes come in royal blue, purple, teal green, green, burgundy, red, pink, and more.
A Tip on Color
Let the serape be the star. If your room is neutral — whites, grays, tans — nearly any serape color works. If the room is already colorful, pick a serape that repeats one color already in the space so it reads as intentional, not chaotic.
Leos Imports is a family business in San Angelo, Texas, importing authentic Mexican goods since 1999. Every serape we sell is handwoven by artisans in Mexico.
